The Strijkijzer (Iron)The Roof Of The City Het Strijkijzer is the tallest apartment building in The Hague. This slim building contains 351 homes: 51 luxury apartments and 300 studios for students. The very latest technological devices have been used to enhance safety and efficiency in the building. It takes just half a minute for a panorama lift to zoom from the ground floor to the 43rd floor. There, the spacious terrace gives a spectacular view across the city. The Hague-based AA Architects’ bureau has won various prizes for this design, including the Emporis Skyscraper Award 2007, for the most beautiful skyscraper in the world. Before the 132-metre-high apartment building was built, this site on the Rijswijkseplein was an empty space. The amazingly small plot of just 30 by 35 metres is wedged between roads and the railway. The Flatiron Building on Broadway in New York, was the source of inspiration. Het Strijkijzer’s arrival has radically altered the silhouette of the city. The Hague has risen to a new high.

Worlds most beautiful !! This highest building in the Hague called “de Strijkijzer”(iron) recently won the annual International prestigious Emporis Skyscraper Award for the most beautiful skyscraper of the year 2008.
