STELTMAN Jewels and Watches
A leader in a world full of magnificence and beauty
Johannes Steltman opened a jewellery business at Noordeinde 42a in 1917, where the master goldsmith designed a beautiful collection, that was quickly snapped up. Steltman soon became one of the trusted names, both nationally and internationally, where the nobility and upper classes had their jewellery made. “What is special about Steltman is that, from the very beginning, we operated at the highest level”, said Mr Nieuwenhuys, Director of Steltman Juwelier and Steltman Watches. “All jewellery was made in-house, which meant that we were never dependent on third parties. In this way we could offer precisely the quality that we had in mind.
Own collection It’s interesting to note that over the years, little has actually changed. In 2008, Steltman still only works with the most beautiful precious stones, and each piece is unique. Steltman buys polished precious stones as close to the source as possible, at trade fairs, or direct from the ‘field’, through which the jeweller can purchase the most beautiful precious stones for the most competitive price. Mr. Nieuwenhuys: “Our own collections are really special: the Steltman® Diamond, Steltman® Gem and Steltman® Wedding collection. In addition, we work with a number of top jewellers, including Chopard. We have also included the Italian collection from Pomellato because of its modern design and that of Tamara Comolli, because of its
striking use of colour.”
Design to order But possibly what distinguishes Steltman most from other jewellers, is the design and production of exclusive jewellery to order. “It is fantastic to walk through the entire process with the customer; design, drawing and creation. That enables us to make truly personal jewellery”, informed Mr Nieuwenhuys enthusiastically. “Because the jewellery is made in our own workshop, we can make the right adaptations and adjust things were necessary. Sometimes we even take the customer with us, so that they can observe the process with their own eyes. This way, an item of jewellery has a really special meaning.” In addition to the purchase of a special item of jewellery (from the collection or to order), customers can also come to the jeweller for an expert opinion regarding their jewellery and obtain thorough advice from one of the five precious stones’ experts.
Steltman Watches A watch is the piece jewellery for men. In contrast to days gone by, men these days want to be able to choose watches for different occasions. Since 1999, men with a passion for special timepieces can go to Steltman Watches on the Noordeinde. “The emphasis is on Swiss-made mechanical timepieces, including Blancpain, IWC and Patek Philippe” said Mr Nieuwenhuys. “Each one is an exclusive timepiece, and is traditionally constructed. We have a huge fondness for mechanical watches; the precision work and ingenious technology, means that these often go on for generations.” Steltman doesn’t only sell special timepieces, customers can also have their treasured possessions maintained or repaired by the skilled and educated watchmakers in the Steltman workshop.
For almost a century, Steltman Juwelier hasn´t only counted the well-to-do from the residence as customers. This Hague jeweller has also achieved international fame. And that’s not so surprising: Steltman is a leader in the design and production of the most exclusive jewellery. Using traditional methods, the most beautiful precious stones are transformed into a brilliant ring or earrings. |
